"I scream you scream, we all scream for ice cream!" With most of the country dealing with heatwaves and record temps, I think July being National Ice Cream Month is the perfect time to be "screaming" for ice cream.
As a kid I loved going to Friendly's. When I was in the 6th grade I remember making the honor roll all four marking periods and the reward for doing so was movie tickets to see E.T. and then go to Friendly's afterward. I got the Royal Banana split and loved every bite.
I used to love going to the Cherry Hill Mall back in the day and getting the bubble gum ice cream in a little store next to the Woolworth's-my class of 89 folks and ole heads from the South Jersey area should remember it, if you do, let me know what your favorite flavor was!
Nowadays I'm more of a Mister Softee ice cream kind of guy. I know, I know-I know people are a little freaked out by Mister Softee because of sanitation concerns ("Where do they wash their hands?", "What about the bacteria counts?!") but to be perfectly honest, dirty or not, the double cone with chocolate and vanilla (no sprinkles) with walnuts ROCKS!
Other than that I don't really have any favorite places to go to for an ice cream treat these days, but I'm open to suggestions, so if you know of a place to get a good scoop with the family, let me know!
The temps are soaring, but if you get the chance this weekend, enjoy a nice cone on National Ice Cream Day, which is this Sunday-it's the perfect way to beat this ridiculous heat!
